Inclusive Playground Complex at Veterans Park

The Inclusive Playground Complex at Veterans Park project located at the RVC Recreation Center (111 North Oceanside Road) includes rehabilitating current park facilities to create a recreation complex that is comprised of a boundless playground (Mr. B’s Park), fitness track, ADA compliant restrooms, water stations, rehabilitated tennis, multi-use (basketball and pickleball) and handball courts, game tables, picnic tables and energy efficient lighting.  Since this is such an extensive undertaking, the project will be done in phases.

This is a true community project, in addition to securing over $1.5 million through various state grants, Mayor Murray has been working with residents and local organizations such as the Rockville Centre Lions Club, Rockville Centre Little League, Rockville Centre Conservancy and the Tommy Brull Foundation to raise funds for Mr. B’s Park.

Phase 1
Demo
Timing: Completed

  • Demolition of tennis courts to prepare for Mr. B’s Playground and rehabilitation of remaining tennis court

Phase 2
Electric infrastructure and energy efficient lighting upgrades
Timing: Currently underway - anticipated to be complete by late August/Early September 2023

  • Removal of old poles
  • Installation of underground wires and conduits
  • Installation of new LED light poles and fixtures

Phase 3
ADA Restrooms
Timing: Construction scheduled to begin late August/Early September - projected completion mid-November

  • Complete rehabilitation of current building
  • Restrooms to be gutted and replaced with two ADA compliant single room unisex restrooms
  • New storage room
  • Kiosk to be used by community organizations for various purposes
  • Water Bottle Filling Station to be installed

Phase 4
Rear Field
Timing: Construction scheduled to begin mid to late September, projected completion late October

  • Regrade current field
  • New irrigation system
  • Field to be resodded

Phase 5
Mr. B’s Playground and Tennis Court Rehabilitation
Timing: Construction scheduled to begin mid to late October, projected completion Late Spring 2024

  • Installing a boundless playground with structures for children of all abilities
  • Installing rubberized flooring for the safety of all participants
  • Total rehabilitation of the current remaining har-tru tennis court to a hard surface court
  • Area to be regraded and upgrade drainage
  • New Flagpole will be added

  • New fencing for the playground and the courts will be added

Phase 6
Multi-use and Handball Courts
Timing: Construction scheduled to begin late March 2024, projected completion late May 2024

  • Current basketball courts will be rehabilitated and lined for basketball and pickleball use
  • New basketball hoops will be installed
  • Handball courts will be rehabilitated

Phase 7
Exercise Track
Timing: Construction scheduled to begin Mid-May 2024, projected completion late July 2024

  • Current track will be rehabilitated
  • Track will be expanded to allow for access to Mr. B’s Playground and various courts
  • Stations with outdoor exercise equipment will be added

Phase 8
Park Amenities
Timing: Late spring 2024

  • Picnic Tables, including tables with room for wheelchairs will be added
  • Game Tables will be added

Phase 9
Cameras
Timing: TBD

  • For security purposes, security cameras will be installed throughout the park
